Founded in 1914, the Instituto Español de Oceanografía (IEO) is the only Spanish institution devoted entirely to fisheries and multidisciplinary marine research. Their activities are mainly directed towards research and giving advice to the Spanish administration on fisheries and marine related issues. IEO has a long and excellent scientific expertise in the field of mollusc culture and biology, covering reproduction, conditioning, larval and spat culture. Currently, IEO is carrying out a number of projects investigating the production of bivalve mollusc seed.

IEO is the leader of WP2, and will be responsible for research on flat oyster broodstock.
